      • Update on work for VT STEM, request for photos, and plans for OutreachNOW Magazine feature on VT STEM with an Energy and Environment Theme
    • Susan is requesting photos with VT STEM K 12 people involved in STEM Activities.  Susan can arrange for a photographer to come and photograph your activity.  She will also supply the release forms.  Contact Susan Felker at 231-4691 sfelker@vt.edu.  She would like to keep this going all year.    
  • Barb Bennett & Jim ????? : Report on the NSF/NGA National Workshop on Science Education and Workforce Issues
    • Represented VT STEM at the NSF/NGA National Workshop.  Found that there were two programs that were supportive of STEM that focused on outreach to parents.  Spoke to Dr. Merritt NSF assistant director for STEM.  Bard will send out information on Dr. Merritt presentation on the importance of STEM. 
    • Jim - attended a conference session on breaking down silos in education.  The presentation focused mostly on higher ed.  He found it was interesting the redesign on liberal arts education and focused on the role of STEM. 
    • The group commented and asked hasn’t liberal arts always been part of STEM.
    • Barb - Surprised to find how little science was being done at the elementary level.
    • Conferences also focused on the pipeline for higher Ed and future workforce.   Focus on pre K thru 20.
    • Mike – Asked what was the future of what job need to be filled?
    • Jim - focus in community colleges to instruct people on how to run lab equipment.  He also talk to the Sectary of Technology and it was found the 70% were technology jobs.  Sectary did not specify what jobs in technology are needed. 
    • Sue- Who are the future attends for future conferences and is it part of a grant program? 
    • Barb- Conference showcased the system they are currently using but had no new information on funding.
    • Faith- Focusing on summer teacher workshops more to the STEM aspects.
  • Dr. Tretola & Peter Macedo: Presentation on E-Environments
    • Program formed to answer what can be done to link the various stakeholders in STEM using distance and distributive learning.  Presentation attached.  Iddel@vt.edu
